About Us
About Dr. Johanna Gaskins
DNP, APRN, AGNP-C
Founder, Seek Wellbeing® Wellness & Medical Housecalls
I am a board-certified adult-gerontology nurse practitioner, author, and founder of Seek Wellbeing® Wellness & Medical Housecalls. With nearly 30 years of nursing experience across hospital, community, and home settings, I have built my practice around a simple belief: people deserve care that sees the whole person, not only the diagnosis.
A Whole-Person Approach to Care
My approach brings together primary care, integrative nursing, and whole-health restorative care. I seek to understand what is contributing to a person’s symptoms while also exploring the conditions that support healing: nourishment, movement, restorative sleep, emotional wellbeing, meaningful relationships, a supportive environment, and a sense of purpose. Medicine has an important place, but managing illness is only part of helping someone live well.
Through Medical Housecalls, I support adults and older adults living with chronic conditions, navigating changes in health, and returning home after hospital or rehabilitation stays. My care combines deep listening with clinical assessment, appropriate screening and diagnostic testing, medication management, and collaboration with families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals. Together, we develop a plan that reflects the patient’s priorities, daily circumstances, and available support.
I view patients as partners in their care. Rather than beginning and ending with “What is wrong?” I also ask, “What matters to you? What is making life harder? What would help you feel more supported?” These conversations help us identify practical opportunities to address illness, strengthen everyday wellbeing, and preserve independence and connection.
Education and Preparation
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dillard University in New Orleans, my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with a focus in Integrative Health and Healing from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, and my post-master’s adult-gerontology nurse practitioner certificate from Drexel University.
My additional preparation includes clinical aromatherapy, acupressure, healing imagery, breathwork, and Reiki. When considering complementary and nonmedication approaches, I attend to the available evidence, safety, each person’s health needs, and their preferences. These approaches are considered thoughtfully within an individualized plan, not as a one-size-fits-all solution.
Beyond the Clinical Visit
My work also extends into writing, education, and the broader Seek Wellbeing® Universe, connecting whole-person care with opportunities for reflection, restoration, and learning. I am the author of Return to Yourself and a chapter coauthor for the third edition of Integrative Nursing. Through this work, I support individuals, caregivers, nurses, and communities in making wellbeing part of everyday life, not something postponed until everything else is finished.
At the heart of my philosophy is the understanding that wellbeing is capacity: the capacity to participate in life, connect with others, make meaningful choices, and pursue what matters, even while living with illness or change. My role is to help people recognize, restore, and sustain that capacity.
“Wellbeing is possible for all who seek it.”

I have been in the nursing field for over 20 years and have mostly dedicated that time to geriatrics. I believe the patient is the most important part of my job and love to meet new people. I enjoy nature, hiking, cooking new dishes, my furies, eating and time with friends and family.
Samantha, Nurse
Practice Manager
I have 18 years of nursing and leadership experience. During this time, I have had the pleasure of serving the geriatric population. Expanding my integrative nursing knowledge and understanding of countless conditions many individuals experience as they age has positioned me to be more effective in my role. I have enjoyed supporting families, caregivers and colleagues through lifelong training and educational opportunities which I pass on to enhance my patient’s care experience. I am the mother to 3 children, and 2 dogs.

My approach is rooted in empathy, education, and empowerment, meeting people exactly where they are on their journey to better health.
In my spare time, I enjoy time with my family, the outdoors, and staying active through weightlifting and running. I find this to be the best medicine!
